First and foremost, I will be building my weekender with a removable cabin, and removable forward seating. This will necessitate a few changes in structural reinforcement for the cabin so it doesn't get too beaten up. I will also need to work out an attachment mechanism for these two removable pieces. Secondly, I intend to make the rig convertable from a sloop to a schooner. The rear mast of the schooner will act as the forward and only mast of the sloop. Unfortunately, the boom and gaff sizes cannot be shared between rigs. Ah well, the price I pay for living out a dream. In order to build in the second mast, I will need to offset the cabin entryway in the cabin bulkhead. I will also need to split the stringer that attaches to the cabin bulkhead into two parts, to make room for a mastbox that will be extending from within this bulkhead extending aft creating a shelf at the top of the mastbox that extends to the seats on either side. A picture will probably describe this better, and as soon as I reach this point I will post one. |

Modified Cabin Bulkhead: First, how it was cut, second, how it appears from the front of my weekender. Note, this is the Weekender, not the Vacationer, my wife is just really short. :) |

In the background of this picture, you can see that the cabin bulkhead has now been removed due to a rethink during a boatshed event. |

Dryfit of the cockpit seat and bridgedeck. Normally, the cabin starts just about where the wood changes from light to dark on the bridgedeck piece. |

| Here's tthe bottom collar piece for the aft mastbox. There will be a lot of additional bracing, but this will keep the very bottom from slipping. | ![]() |

| Here, you can see how the modifications are starting to come together. The cabin front has been squared off to give a little more room in the cabin. The roof will be raised by four inches so that I get sitting headroom, and the mast stump is raised four inches to keep clearances for the mast pivot. The aft mast stump is sitting in roughly the correct location, giving a hint of the schooner layout, complete with a place holder for the eventual bowsprit. | ![]() |
